Lazy Summer Days Wall Hanging

Welcome back!  Today I have a fun wall hanging using a few of the new CHA Summer 2012 new release Basically Bare items!

The base for the wall hanging is an acrylic page from the Oh So Mini Stamp Album.  To start, I inked the back of the page with Snow Cap alcohol ink.  Then, I ran the page through my Cuttlebug for a bit of texture.  Next, I added a bit green StazOn to the edges of the page and to the raised areas that were created with the Cuttlebug.  The last bit I added to the background was a bit of orange Kurecolor Ink for a bit of contrast color and then a few strips of torn patterned paper.

Now let's look at how I altered the Basically Bare embellishments.  I started with the felt clouds from the Celestial Set and spritzed them with a bit of water based ink and set them aside to dry.  Once dry, I added a layer of Liquitex Glass Bead Gel Medium, which adds so much wonderful texture to the pieces.  This is one step where you have to have a bit of patience because it takes a couple days for the gel medium to fully dry. For the record, I am not a patient person and was not happy to wait so long to get back to this project, but the end effect is definitely worth the wait. :)

The next thing I added to this project was the mustaches from the Hats and 'Staches Set.  I covered both of the mustaches with patterned paper, inked the edges, then added a bit or Rock Candy Stickles.  By flipping the mustaches upside down, they make perfect tulips.  I then added a bit of May Arts leaf ribbon to complete the flowers.

To finish this piece, I added a few beads and bells to the bottom.  Now, not only do I have an adorable wall hanging, but it also give a soft jingle when a breeze happens by.

Treat Holder

Today I am sharing a new stamp from Queen Kat Designs by Melia Newman called Ornaments.  As soon as I laid eyes on this stamp, I know exactly what I wanted to make!  Of course I went with my instincts and made a super cute treat holder.  All that's missing is a Ziploc bag full of homemade treats inside the holder.  

To make the treat holder itself, I cut a piece of cardstock to 5in x 10 1/2in.  I then scored the cardstock at 4in, 4 1/2in, 5in, and 9in.  Next, create a mountain fold on the 4 1/2 score line and valley folds on the 4in and 5in score lines.  This will create the bottom of the treat holder.  Then, simply fold down on the last score line.  

I then used a punch to create the scalloped border.  Lastly, I added a bit of Christmas themed patterned paper.

For the stamped image itself, I colored it with my favorite pencils, Derwent Inktense, and then spritzed the entire image with Glimmer Mist for a pop of shimmer.  I then used a Spellbinders die to cut out the image and then added glitter around the edges.  Finally, I adhered the stamped image to the treat holder.

Heritage Layouts (Plus A Few Cards)

Today I have another fun set of projects that were completed a while back for an event at Scrapbook News and Review Magazine featuring Donna Salazar/GCD paper.

First up, I have several cards and an ATC.  For all of them, I did a lot of fussy cutting.  I simply fell in love with all the butterflies and had to be sure I used each and every one of them.

Who says heritage layouts have to be dark and colorless?  Sure, I've made several that were not eye-popping with color, but it's also fun to switch things up and add lots of color to a heritage page.  

This first layout is my Mother and Great-Grandmother in 1961.  I simply layered the patterned paper and cardstock, then fussy cut a few flowers.

 Next up is a layout of my Great-Grandmother and my Uncle.  For this page, I punched the edges of the patterned paper for a bit of texture.  Then I added a bit of lace, a flower spray, and some corrugated hearts (which are from Basically Bare) that had been heat embossed to give them a worn, weathered look.

This last layout is my Grandmother and my Great-Grandmother.  And again, lots of color.  I simply layered lots of different sized strips of patterned paper, added a bit of ribbon trim, fussy cut some butterflies,  then added a couple of flowers for contrast.  The flowers were inked with Lindy's Stamp Gang Color Shots, and oh how I wish you could see the glimmer on them!

Mrs. Clause

Today with a sexy little stamp from Queen Kat Designs by Charles Bristow called Not A Creature.  

To color the image, I used several different techniques.  First, I stamped the image onto white cardstock and onto a piece of transparency.  On the cardstock, I colored the wall with Derwent Inktense pencils and the skin areas with Prismacolor pencils.

Now on to the transparency piece that was stamped.  I flipped the image over and added alcohol ink to the back side of the transparency for the brick wall, teddy bear in Santa's bag, and the fireplace.

Also on the back of the transparency, I added Stickles for the garland, stockings, Santa's bag, and Mrs. Clause's outfit. Once the Stickles were dry (about 24 hours later), I attached the two pieces together so it looks like a completely colored image.

Fun Times

Welcome back!  Today I have a bunch of items from an event at Scrapbook News and Review Magazine that featured The Cat's Pajamas stamps and dies. I had a lot of fun working with the stamps and dies that were provided.  Fairy warning, this is a photo heavy post!

First up is a colorful tag (love the pink/black color combo!).  The dress form is from Basically Bare and the skirt was made using a grass die from The Cat's Pajamas.

Next, I altered an old Prima flower jar.  I inked the entire bottle with alcohol ink, die cut some birds and houses (dies courtesy of The Cat's Pajamas), then added some ribbon and trim.

Now, on to a cute card.  I simply layered my patterned paper, and then stamped little droplets over the entire card.  Next, I stamped my main image and colored it in.  Lastly, I covered the water puddle with Glossy Accents.

And yet another cute little card. Here, I've used my dies in two different ways.  First, I used a die cut pies of cardstock as a mask on the background.  Then, I cut two strips of paper using the grass die and then adhered the strips to the card.

One more card :)  For this card, I used the bird house die.  I cut out several of the birdhouses, folded then over, and layered them to form a flower.

For this layout, I used lots and lots of die cut strips of pattered paper using the grass die.  It made for a very fun border for the layout.

This ATC is my favorite item from the event. I simply spritzed the background with several colors of ink, then adhered a piece of punchinella.  The music notes were die cut from a piece of metal.

And lastly, another fun layout! What better way to use my stamp than on a layout of a little girl playing in water?

Wicked

 Have you started thinking about all the fall and winter holidays that are quickly approaching? Well, if not, this card can just be your first reminder. :)  I'm back with you today with a new stamp from Queen Kat Designs by Jaz Higgins called Halloween Fairy. Love, love, love this stamp!

To start, I simply layered two different patterned papers, turning them sideways so they were not all perfectly aligned.  Then I add a couple of die cut bat, some black mesh, and a black flower that had been misted with Glimmer Mist for a bit of shimmer.

I colored her hair and bow with Derwent Inktense pencils.  I used Prismacolor pencils for her face.  And for one last bit of shimmer, I added Smooch ink to the pumpkin.

All Things

Are you ready for another layout featuring lots of Basically Bare items?  How about some new Summer CHA releases? Well, lets get started then!

Let's start with the background first.  I used Glimmer Mist in French Vanilla, Rolling Tide, Tarnished Silver, and Crocheted Doily to spritz and splatter the white cardstock.  I wanted lots of shimmer, but only hints of color.

Next, I used a canvas page from the Oh So Mini collection and colored it solidly with Glimmer Glaze in Mellow Yellow.  Once it was dry, I stamped a few random butterflies on the canvas page.

On the two chipboard frames, I painted them with Glimmer Glaze in Coconut Shell.  With a thick layer of Glimmer Glaze, they look just look old wooden frames!

Now, on to the acrylic frame.  To start, I ran it through my Cuttlebug for a bit of texture.  Then, I inked the edges and raised areas with white StazOn.  Lastly, I added a bit of ribbon and trim around the inside edges.

To finish the page, I used alcohol ink on an acrylic bird and heat embossed a chipboard bird.  And, tucked under the large bird is a felt vine that was also heat embossed.  Then, I just layered the frames and added in a few flowers and a butterfly.

Sunflower Fairy

I'm back with you again with a fun new Queen Kat Designs stamp by Jaz Higgins called Sunflower Fairy.  Isn't she adorable? I had a lot of fun working with this stamp! 

I wanted to do something a bit different for this card.  So instead of a cardstock base, I used acrylic.  I used Ranger's Snow Cap Alcohol Ink on the entire card, then used several shaded of green StazOn as accent colors.

I double mounted the stamped image so it would stand out from the background and added a few flowers at the corners.

The entire stamped image was colored with Derwent Inktense pencils then blended with an aqua brush.  To give the image a bit of "pop", I added Stickles on her wings and Smooch accents in her hair.

Lastly,  I added a tiny mirror bird, which is nestled in among the flowers.

Bring On The Flowers!

Finally, a year after these projects were created, I can share them with you.  All three of these were created as part of a special event between Scrapbook News and Review Magazine and Petaloo. The challenge was to use the flowers in a creative way.  I have to say, I had so much fun working on these projects!

The first item I created is an 8x8 canvas.  I started by painting the edges of the canvas with acrylic paint.  Then I took a stack of flowers, roughly about 15, and cut them into sections that had 2-3 petals each.  Then I just randomly adhered and layered the flowers. Once all of the petals were on the canvas, I added a very light coating of Iridescent Medium to each of them.  

For the middle section, I used a bit of Tissue Tape and punchinella to create texture.  The butterfly was inked with several different colors of Distress Ink and then I added a thick layer of Glossy Accents.  Lastly, I added a bit of pom-pom trim to hide the raw edges of the cut flower petals.

My next project was an altered stone tile.  I inked the tile with Adirondak ink, then added a bit of black mesh.  The two flowers started off completely white and were inked with several different shades of Gelatos.  To finish the piece, I simply layered on the canvas banner, acrylic heart, and chipboard butterflies.

For my last project, I created a 12x12 layout.  The picture was taken after a night of snow.  And BTW, it never snows in GA! I had the chipboard fence piece in my stash and new it would be perfect for the layout.  And any fence must have flowers and shrubs, so I cut up more of my Petaloo flowers and created the perfect embellishment.  I even saved the flower centers and used those as part of the fence line.

Home and Life

When I first laid eyes on my Lamb Prince stamp(which can be found in the Queen Kat Designs store), I immediately thought it would be perfect to use for a baby shower card.  With that thought in mind, I started coloring him pink.  And that's where things went in a totally different direction!  You know what though?  I love the finished project. 

Pink fur, red hair, green striped shirt, and gold crown - nothing but cuteness!  And to avoid clean and straight lines, I ripped the edges of the cardstock and rough cut the lace.

Trio Of Cards

Today I have another few cards that were created specifically for Scrapbook News and Review Magazine.  The styles range from very clean and simple, to frilly and feminine, and then to super inky.  Who says as a scrapper you have to stay within one style?  That would take all the fun away!

Stop and Look Around

When was the last time you stopped and really took stock of all the wonderful things in life?  I can say that even if I'm having a really bad day, I know in my heart that there are still so many amazing things around me.

By now, I'm guessing you've figured out my inspiration for this card!  I was going through a pack of paper and came across the sentiment sticker and knew immediately it would be the perfect paring with my Bird Fairy stamp by Che Gilson, which can be found in the Queen Kat Designs Store.  Wanna know my favorite thing about this stamp?  The big curl on her hair, simply adorable!

I started the card by simply layering several different pieces of patterned paper.  Then I stamped my image on white cardstock and colored it with a mix of Prismacolor and Derwent Inktense pencils.

Lamb Prince Card

Jamie here with you again on a wonderful Friday! And today I have the cutest stamp to share with you, Lamb Prince by Sandra Caldwell, which can be found in the Queen Kat Designs Store.  Seriously, this guy is adorable!  

To color my Lamb Prince, I used Prismacolor watercolor pencils in Black, Cool Grey, French Grey, and White and then blended the colors with a water brush.  Then I used Sunburst Yellow and True Blue on his shirt and crown.

Finishing the card was a cinch.  I simply inked the edges of a piece of patterned paper, added a die cut and ribbon, glittered a chipboard flourish (have I mentioned I will add glitter to anything and everything?), and then added a couple flowers.  I fussy cut my Prince, added a few pop-dots, and then sat him on the flourish.

Party Time!

Welcome back, and boy do I have a lot to show you today!  I have so many friends and family members with birthdays coming up that I wanted to make a fun set of items that I could use.  So hold onto your hats, I have three items that will spruce up the birthday party.

To start with, I have a super adorable gift canister and birthday card.  The canister and card feature Basically Bare chipboard from the Fanciful Frames Set, Celestial Set, and Bird Set .   Now, let me show you how the gift canister was created.

1. To start, I upcycled a plastic canister I was no longer using.

 2. Cut your patterned paper to the size of the canister, then adhere to the  canister.

3. Add a pom-pom trim to the top of the canister.

4. Wrap a piece of contrasting paper around the middle of the canister.  Next, paint the smallest piece from the Fanciful Frames set with a Zig Painty FX pen in black and let dry.  Once dry, add a thin layer of glue around the edges of the frame and then add black glitter.  Must not forget to add a bit of glitter :)

5. Cover a chipboard bird with patterned paper and add a small dot of black Enamel Accents for the eye. Then adhere the bird to the frame.

6. Lastly, adhere the frame to the cylinder and then tuck in a small vine behind the frame.

Next up is bright birthday card.  How cute is this?  Lots of layers of Momenta patterned paper and Basically Bare chipboard.  I used the same technique on the chipboard frame on the card as I did on the canister, just to tie the two pieces together.  The chipboard sun was heat embossed with WOW Sierra Sunrise Embossing Glitter.

And now to the last pieces, three pinwheels.  Every birthday party needs pinwheels, right?

These pinwheels make the perfect party favor!  And tucked tight in the middle of each one is a Basically Bare acrylic button that has been inked with alcohol based ink.
